IN NEW YORK, A GROWING SENSIBILITY TOWARDS A MORE MINDFUL APPROACH TO FOOD, HEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY, WITH A GLIMPSE OF VARIOUS LOCAL COMMUNITY GARDENS, ROOFTOP FARMING AND ZERO FOOD MILES EXPERIENCES. TO LINK THE TWO CITIES THE TOMATO, NATIVE TO CENTRAL AMERICA, BROUGHT TO EUROPE BY COLUMBUS, AND BROUGHT BACK TO THE NEW WORLD CENTURIES LATER THANKS TO THE “TOMATO CULTURE” OF EARLY 20TH-CENTURY ITALIAN IMMIGRANTS (PIZZA, SPAGHETTI). THIS IS THE CENTRAL THEME OF EXPONYMI-EDIBLE EXHIBITION, AN INSTALLATION AT THE FIRST COMMUNITY GARDEN OF MILAN “GIARDINI IN TRANSITO”, WHERE THE HORTUS PAVILION IS MADE ENTIRELY OUT OF RECYCLED MATERIALS AND CREATES A PLACE THAT IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF THE PUBLIC SPACE, AND IS NOT ONLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN NEW THINGS AND MEET NEW PEOPLE BUT ALSO A STIMULUS FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY. A GARDEN PLANTED WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF TOMATOES COMPLETES THE WORK, WHICH HAS A DIGITAL EXTENSION: QR CODES LINK THE GARDEN IN REAL TIME TO A WEBSITE, WHICH COLLECTS DATA FROM USERS IN ITALY AND NEW YORK, CREATING A LIBRARY OF KNOWLEDGE AND URBAN AGRICULTURE EXPERIENCES.
